Who's ready to watch our 2016 Stanley Cup Champions take the ice tonight against the Washington Capitals? I know I'm ready! As we patiently wait for tonight's raising of the championship banner and the puck to drop, here's a look back at some photos I captured during the Stanley Cup Victory Parade held back in June. Enjoy the game and Let's Go Pens!

Happy 200th Birthday, Pittsburgh! http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2016/7/happy-200th-birthday-pittsburgh Although Pittsburgh was officially incorporated as a city on March 18, 1816, the city's first Mayor, Ebenezer Denny, was sworn into office on July 9th of the same year. Today, we celebrate this occasion 200 years later with a multitude of parades, concerts, and of course, fireworks! Here's to another 200 years, Pittsburgh!

The Calm Before the Winter Storm http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2016/1/the-calm-before-the-winter-storm Good morning, everyone! As I'm sure just about everyone knows, there's a pretty nasty winter storm headed for several major cities on the east cost. So, before all the chaos and frustration ensues, here's a recent shot of a calm and peaceful winter sunrise in downtown Pittsburgh. It seems like the predicted snowfall estimates change quite often, so if you have to travel this weekend, please be careful and stay safe out there. Have a great (and safe) weekend!

A Cold, Snowy Day in Downtown Pittsburgh http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2016/1/a-cold-snowy-day-in-downtown-pittsburgh Good evening, everyone! I hope you're all doing well and staying warm! While working downtown yesterday, I had the opportunity to capture a time-lapse video of a cold, snowy day in downtown Pittsburgh. Large chunks of ice were flowing down the Allegheny River as a steady snowfall moved through the region. I am so very fortunate to be able to capture this awesome view of Pittsburgh, even if it is gray and gloomy looking outside.

As always, thanks for stopping by and enjoy the video!

It's Beginning To Feel a Lot Like Christmas http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/12/its-beginning-to-feel-a-lot-like-christmas Good morning, everyone! As I'm sure most of you know, it's been quite a bit warmer than usual here in Pittsburgh this season. But it would figure that the weather would return to normal when I decide to go out and take pictures of the city. Oh well. I dressed accordingly and had several layers on in preparation for the cold. (It's a good thing, too, as it ended up being rather windy in some spots). At any rate... I tried to grab some shots of the Christmas Tree at Point State Park in celebration of the holiday season. The winds certainly made getting a sharp photo of this tree difficult, but I did manage to capture this photo of the tree. "It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas..."

I hope you're all having a wonderful start to your weekend! Earlier this evening, I had the opportunity to capture some awesome photos in downtown Pittsburgh, and I'm really please with the way this image turned out. It was a cold and windy evening up on Mt. Washington, but I was fortunate enough to capture these skyscrapers reflecting the warm light from the setting sun. I've been wanting to capture a shot like this for quite some time, and I finally got it! I hope you enjoy this photo as much as I do! As always, thanks for stopping by!

Skyscrapers Peek Out Over the Autumn Horizon http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/11/skyscrapers-peek-out-over-the-autumn-horizon Good evening, everyone! Unfortunately, I didn't get nearly as many fall foliage photos as I wanted to this season, but I did manage to snag a few. This particular photo is from the west hills of Pittsburgh in Robinson Township. In this shot, you can see the tops of the U.S. Steel Building and BNY Mellon Center peeking out over the autumn horizon. I never would've known about this view if it weren't for a recent construction detour that took me on a different route. As soon as I saw the tops of the buildings, I knew I had to pull over, setup my camera, and fire off a few frames. I hope you enjoy the photo, and as always, thank you for stopping by.

I hope you've all had a chance to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather we've been having this week (even if it is getting dark around 6:00 P.M.)! Tonight's image features a unique view of Pittsburgh from Allegheny Commons Park West. In this photo, the city is framed in by a gingko tree filled with bright yellow leaves. I love this time of year, and I hope to share more fall photos before all the leaves are all gone!

Tonight's photo features the Roberto Clemente (6th Street) Bridge as it disappears into an ominous fog. I captured this image a few weeks ago, but I felt this eerie black-and-white edit was appropriate considering today is Halloween. Footedale VFD at Sunset http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/10/footedale-vfd-at-sunset Good evening, everyone! Tonight's photo comes to you from the small community of Footedale in German Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. I had just wrapped up a client photo session near my old stomping grounds, and on the drive home I passed the fire station. As I drove by, I noticed a new (well, new to me at least) sign on display above the garage bays. Since I had all of camera gear with me, I decided to turn around and grab some new shots of a place that holds so many important memories in my life. As I was taking photos, those memories started flooding back... Responding to calls at 02:00 in the morning, Monday Night Bingos, equipment checks, department meetings, washing the fire trucks, training, Christmas parties, birthday parties, the food from the ladies' auxiliary kitchen, cash bashes, weddings, and yes, even the black wreaths and boots that donned the front of station as we remembered those those who had passed over the course of time.

I remember my Dad telling me stories of how this building used to be two stories tall. Many years ago, it served as a general store for the "coal patch" of Footedale. At that time, the general store carried everything from meats and groceries to clothing and other household supplies. I don't remember exactly, but I believe in 1948, it became the local fire station and continues to remain a staple in the community.

Thank you to all of the dedicated volunteers who answer the call and give so much of your time and talent to your local communities! Stay safe out there!

The Pump House at Point State Park http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/10/the-pump-house-at-point-state-park Good evening, everyone! I was up rather early this morning (4:00 AM to be exact), so I decided to head into the city earlier than I usually do to see if I could capture some early morning photos. While I was walking about the city, I stopped by the fountain at Point State Park to try and get some still water reflection photos before the fountain came on. As I was approaching the fountain, I saw that the door to the pump house was opened, and I flagged down the pump operator to ask him what time the fountain kicked on. The next thing I know, I was being offered a tour of the pump house as well as the opportunity to actually turn on the fountain for the day!

Damon was kind enough to show me around the pump house and explain to me how things work. There are three "main" pumps to power the center parts of the fountain and another pump to power the "peacock" fountains at the base. Of the three main pumps, only two operate at a time to give the third pump a rest. The "resting" pump gets a week off and is alternated each week to help evenly rotate the workload among the three pumps. When the pumps kick in to power the 100-foot tall fountain, I could definitely feel the ground below rumble as the water began to circulate through the system. According to Damon, the fountain cycles about 225,000 gallons per minute! I'd like to thank Damon at the PA DCNR for giving me this awesome opportunity! After all, it's not everyday that some random Pittsburgher is given the chance to power on one of the city's most iconic landmarks!

The Tower at PNC Plaza Opens http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/10/the-tower-at-pnc-plaza-opens Good afternoon, everyone! Another Pittsburgh milestone was achieved on Friday, October 1st, as our city is now home to the world's greenest skyscraper! We locals have been watching the building go up since the spring of 2012, and as of this past Friday, construction has officially been completed. As I was walking around the city, I noticed that the fencing and jersey barriers that had been in place for so long were finally gone. The sidewalks were completed, the trees planted, and a majority of the construction vehicles were cleared from the area. But, I still didn't know the building had officially been opened. I actually found out over the weekend, when I came across an article highlighting the building's opening. If you're interested in learning more about the building and its many eco-friendly features, check out the following links: http://www.nextpittsburgh.com/city-design/the-tower-at-pnc-plaza-opens-as-the-greenest-office-building-in-the-world/ and https://www1.pnc.com/pnctower/

Over the Edge Event at EQT Plaza http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/10/over-the-edge-event-at-eqt-plaza Good morning, everyone! We're off to a rainy start to the weekend here in Pittsburgh. Fortunately, the rain held off yesterday, so I was able to get a few cool shots from around the city. This morning's photos come to you from another Over the Edge rooftop rappelling event held at EQT Plaza yesterday. I was at the office going about my daily routine and I kept hearing cheers and other things coming from street-level. As I looked out the window, I could see folks set up to rappel down the side of EQT Plaza. So, I grabbed my camera and headed down to see what the event was all about.

The event gave participants the opportunity to rappel 21 stories down EQT Plaza in downtown Pittsburgh and raise awareness for Our Clubhouse, a non-profit that provides free emotional and social support to those in our region touched by cancer. Each participant needed to raise a minimum of $1,500 which will fund cancer support programs. According to their press release, this was their 2nd annual event.

Our Clubhouse "...provides free cancer support for those living with cancer at any age, as well as the family and friends who care for them. We are a community of support for everyone currently living with or affected by cancer - men, women, teens, and children - along with their family and friends." For more information about Our Clubhouse, please visit their web site, www.ourclubhouse.org or call (412) 338-1919.

Sunrise Under the Rachel Carson Bridge http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/9/sunrise-under-the-rachel-carson-bridge Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Let's kick off the start of the work week with this sunrise photo from downtown Pittsburgh. As you can see, the sun was just coming up over the horizon, but from this angle, was still below the Rachel Carson Bridge. With the sun this low in the sky, it light up the under side of the Andy Warhol bridge, which enabled me to capture this image that I posted over the weekend.

Have a great week, everyone, and thanks for stopping by!

Under the Warhol Bridge http://www.dskwared.com/blog/2015/9/under-the-warhol-bridge Good evening, everyone! I hope your weekend is off to a great start so far! As you can tell, it's been some time since my last blog post. I've been in the midst of some tech upgrades and data migrations here at home, so I've been a little distracted with that recently. My hope is that once these upgrades are complete, it will improve my workflow and overall editing process.

But I digress... Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to catch some early morning shots in downtown Pittsburgh before heading in to the office. This particular shot was taken under the Andy Warhol Bridge while the sun was just coming up over the horizon. This was also an opportunity to play around with and test out my brand new wide-angle lens! I'm hoping this will allow me to get some of those creative shots I've had in mind for the past couple of years. As always, thank you for stopping by and enjoy the photo!
